La Ciotat

If you're ever in the South of France near Marseille and fancy a dip in the cool blue sea I urge you to do to La Ciotat. Rent a boat and prepare for a day filled with the sound of waves and warming your skin under the Mediterranean sun. 

The game of pétanque was invented in La Ciotat and the first tournament was held there in 1910. The history of the game can be found in the Musee Ciotaden in the centre of the town. The perfect place to spend those scorching hours away from the sun.
